Clark Regional Park features an amphitheater, nature trails, a stocked fishing pond, and a small museum which features ice age fossil and local geology exhibits.  The City of Buena Park has a local history park where several historic buildings have been preserved.  These include the Whitaker-Jaynes House (which serves as the city’s local history museum) the Bacon House – possibly the oldest surviving structure from the area, the Stage Stop Hotel (which houses the California Welcome Center-Orange County) and the Tice House.  The Dreger Clock, a 75-year-old multi-faced street clock, was installed in front of the Whitaker/Jaynes house overlooking Beach Blvd in September 2009 after a two-year restoration project.

Metro Blue Line and the North-South Shuttle Service.cp-ad-save-thousands

Some of the attractions available in Carson are CSU Dominguez Hills, a major commuter school, and StubHub Center, a sports complex offering a world-famous soccer stadium.  One of the Goodyear blimps is based in Carson, as is the International Printing Museum, and shopping can be enjoyed at the SouthBay pavilion.  Carson has large tracts of undeveloped land which is rare for an area so close to downtown Los Angeles, and several large development projects have been proposed through the years including a National Football League stadium to host both the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers.

Oil was discovered in the 1920’s at Dominguez Hill in Carson, near the site of a famous battle of the Mexican-American War called the Battle of Dominguez Rancho in 1846.  Before long, refineries and sprawling industrial complexes were built all around the area leading to a population surge and further development of residential housing.  Although most of the oil was pumped up by the 1960’s, there are still many petrochemical industries located in Carson and the surrounding cities.  Nisson automobile corporation had its headquarters in Carson until 2006 when they relocated to Tennessee.  Carson takes its name from George Henry Carson (1832–1901), a merchant, road builder, rancher and member of the Los Angeles Common Council in the 1850s.

Long Beach Homes For Sale

LONG BEACH HOMES FOR SALE  |  NEW LISTINGS  |  UNLISTED

Long Beach Homes For Sale

Long Beach Homes For Sale

Long Beach, located on the Pacific Coast, is one of the most populous cities in Southern California.  It is located about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, near the border of Orange County.  The surrounding cities and communities are Wilmington, Carson, Gardena, Compton, Paramount, Lakewood, Cerritos, Cypress, and Seal Beach.  The city of Signal Hill is located in the center of Long Beach and is completely encircled by it.  The city of Long cp-ad-save-thousandsBeach has many different, interesting, and unique neighborhoods- about 87 all together, depending on your source.  Long Beach traces its name to the 1880’s when land there was purchased by the “Long Beach Land and Water Company”, and the city was incorporated in 1897.  Other areas of Long Beach were also developed during the 1800’s, such as the neighborhoods of Belmont Heights, Belmont Shores, Naples, and Alamitos.  During the early 1900’s development began on the neighborhoods of Bixby Knolls, California Heights, North Long Beach, and parts of the City of Signal Hill.

The discovery of oil during the 1920’s and 1930’s gave birth to a large petrochemical industry in Long Beach and Signal Hill for several decades.  From 1929 until 1960 Model A cars were built at the Ford Motor Company factory which was named “Long Beach Assembly”.  Douglas Aircraft opened a large manufacturing facility in 1941 where they produced, among other aircraft, the famed B-17 Flying Fortress bombers used during WWII.  Douglas Aircraft merged with McDonnell Aircraft in 1967 forming McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company, but then in 1997 it was merged with Boeing which ended its 75 year history.  The last aircraft being built at the Long Beach factory were C-17 Globemasters, until late 2015 when production was finally ended.  Large amounts of international trade move through the Port of Long Beach, and the nearby Port of Los Angeles to the north, and there was once also a large Navy base.  Trade valued at over $140 billion moves through the Port of Long Beach every year making is the 2nd busiest seaport in the country.  There are several large medical centers in Long Beach which employ nearly 9,000 people.  Long Beach is home to the RMS Queen Mary, an Art Deco ocean liner built in 1936, that since 1967 has been permanently docked and serves as a museum, events venue, and hotel.  For 16 years after it was first commissioned, it was the fastest ocean liner in the world.

The Aquarium of the Pacific, which opened in 1998, features a collection of more than 12,500 animals from over 550 different species, and attracts some 13 million visitors every year.  Long Beach maintains 92 parks around the city, which cover about 3,100 acres.  The 815 acre El Dorado Regional Park features fishing lakes, an archery range, youth campground, bike trails, and picnic areas. The Long Beach Parks Department also operates four public swimming pools, and four launch ramps for boaters to access the Pacific Ocean.

Long Beach Homes For Sale

There are many historic buildings throughout Long Beach and houses dating to the late 1880’s in some of the oldest areas.  The city’s culture supports a large collection of art galleries and museums- the Long Beach Museum of Art, the Museum of Latin American Art, The Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum (PieAM), and various street art projects throughout the city.  A mural painted by Robert Wyland on the exterior of the Long Beach Sports Arena is considered to be the largest mural in the world.  The University Art Museum on the Long Beach State campus has a national reputation for its high-quality and innovative programs, and the university itself is home to one of the largest publicly funded art schools in the nation.  Shops and galleries in downtown Long Beach hold openings and arts exhibits during the monthly Artwalk.  There are too many other cultural events found in Long Beach to list here, including music, theater, and sporting venues and events.

Bellflower Homes for Sale

Bellflower, CA

Bellflower is a city in the suburbs of Los Angeles, about 11 miles southeast of Downtown.  The 6.17 square miles of the city are roughly defined by Ashworth Street on the south, on the east the border follows the line of Palo Verde Ave. up to Foster Road, then east to Lakewood Blvd., and then south to the intersection of Downey Ave. and Rose Street.  Cities and neighborhoods adjacent to Bellflower include Paramount, Downey, Norwalk, Cerritos, Artesia, Lakewood, and North Long Beach.  Within Bellflower, the area around the intersection of Alondra Blvd. and Clark Avenue is sometimes referred to as the neighborhood of Rendalia.  Founded in 1906 by F.E. Woodruff, Bellflower was originally named Somerset but the U.S. Postal Service rejected the name because there was already a town named Somerset in Colorado. cp-ad-save-thousands The present name is from the Bellefleur apple which was popular in local orchards during the early 1900’s, and the city was incorporated officially as Bellflower in 1957.  Until the 1950’s the area was mostly farmland and dairy production, but soaring property values and pressure from real-estate syndicates changed the area into the mostly residential city it is today. During the 1960’s, the main thoroughfare through the city, Bellflower Blvd., developed into a busy retail shopping strip with restaurants, high-end boutiques, arts and crafts shops, and other small businesses as well as larger department stores, banks, and commercial businesses.  Because of the many mom and pop owned stores and restaurants, many residents feel it has a small town feel.  In addition to single-family homes, there are also duplexes, condominiums, and apartments, both historic and new construction.

Adams-Normandie Homes for Sale

Adams-Normandie is a small neighborhood located around the intersection of Normandie Avenue and West Adams Boulevard, about 3 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles.  The boundaries of the area are the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) on the north, S. Vermont Ave. on the east, W. Jefferson Blvd. on the south, and S. Western Ave. on the west.  Nearby neighborhoods include Jefferson Park, Pico-Union, University Park, Vermont-Harbor, and Leimert Park.  There are 2 public elementary schools, and 1 private school in the neighborhood, and 3 public recreation areas- the Loren Miller Recreation Center, the Richardson Family Park, and the West Adams Heights “pocket” park.  The Adams-Normandie Neighborhood Association sponsors several annual events such as the National Night Out on Crime.

In the early 1900’s, the West Adams-Normandie area was one of Los Angeles’ most prestigious communities.  Planned in 1902 by Pasadena developer and builder George cp-ad-save-thousandsW. Stimson, the location attracted many socially prominent individuals seeking suburban ambiance adjacent to the downtown area.  Percy H. Clark, one of the primary real estate developers of Beverly Hills, built many of the custom homes in the neighborhood, including his own residence on Van Buren Place.  Overall, the architecture of the area represents the transition from Victorian era styles of the late 1800s to the Arts and Crafts aesthetic of the early 1900s.  Adams-Normandie features several large groupings of Shingle and Craftsman style residences.  The Van Buren Place Historic District, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is located in the heart of the neighborhood.
