Adams-Normandie is a small neighborhood located around the intersection of Normandie Avenue and West Adams Boulevard, about 3 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles.  The boundaries of the area are the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) on the north, S. Vermont Ave. on the east, W. Jefferson Blvd. on the south, and S. Western Ave. on the west.  Nearby neighborhoods include Jefferson Park, Pico-Union, University Park, Vermont-Harbor, and Leimert Park.  There are 2 public elementary schools, and 1 private school in the neighborhood, and 3 public recreation areas- the Loren Miller Recreation Center, the Richardson Family Park, and the West Adams Heights “pocket” park.  The Adams-Normandie Neighborhood Association sponsors several annual events such as the National Night Out on Crime.

In the early 1900’s, the West Adams-Normandie area was one of Los Angeles’ most prestigious communities.  Planned in 1902 by Pasadena developer and builder George cp-ad-save-thousandsW. Stimson, the location attracted many socially prominent individuals seeking suburban ambiance adjacent to the downtown area.  Percy H. Clark, one of the primary real estate developers of Beverly Hills, built many of the custom homes in the neighborhood, including his own residence on Van Buren Place.  Overall, the architecture of the area represents the transition from Victorian era styles of the late 1800s to the Arts and Crafts aesthetic of the early 1900s.  Adams-Normandie features several large groupings of Shingle and Craftsman style residences.  The Van Buren Place Historic District, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is located in the heart of the neighborhood.

The neighborhood is part of a Historic Preservation Plan which is working to advance   the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of structures, natural features, and landscape in the Adams-Normandie area to preserve the neighborhood for future generations.  The  plan also serves as an educational tool for both existing and potential property owners, residents, and investors and will be used by the general public to learn more about the Historic Preservation Overlay Zone.
