Little Armenia is a neighborhood in East Hollywood, and part of the greater Los Angeles area. It is bordered on the west by the 101, the south edge is Santa Monica Blvd., on the east it extends to N. Vermont Ave, and on the north its border is Hollywood Blvd. Surrounding communities include Koreatown, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, and Hollywood. It was given its name in October 2000 by the L.A. city council because of the large number of Armenian-Americans who live there as well as the stores and businesses catering to Armenian culture. Starting mostly in the 1920’s, the majority of Armenian immigrants have made the Los Angeles area their new home. In addition to those who immigrated from Armenia, many more came from Iran, Lebanon, Turkey, and elsewhere in the former Soviet Union as well as those who were born here in the United States. Barnsdall Art Park is located on scenic Olive Hill in the northeast corner of Little Armenia and includes the historic Hollyhock House and an arts center. The neighborhood has many classic Craftsman style homes as well as condominiums and apartments. Restaurants in the area offer Armenian, Lebanese, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern style cuisine. Residents have easy access to many retail stores and shops located along Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards, and Kaiser Permanente has a large medical center on the east side of the neighborhood. Along Hollywood Blvd. between Western Ave and Normandie is an area known as Thai Town that offers Thai themed cuisine and shops.
