South Park is a neighborhood of Los Angeles nestled in the southwest corner of the city that has seen much modern expansion over the previous decade. Development has included adding and renovating residential high rises, sports stadiums, concert arenas, and luxury restaurants and hotels, making it the go-to destination for the ambitious and successful residents of Los Angeles. With a median age of 23, South Park is one of the younger and more diverse areas in L.A. County. It is also notable that South Park has one of the lowest crime rates on any Downtown neighborhood. The Safe Team of South Park Business Improvement District (BID) patrols all day, every day, on bicycle and foot throughout the South Park district. The South Park BID provides a 24/7 Safe Walk Service within it’s district boundaries by providing a safety officer to escort residents or visitors who request the service. Metro service is also available on the blue line at Pico and Union offering service to more connections at Union Station.
South Park is defined by the I-10 and 110 freeways on the southwest and northwest sides, West 8th St. on the northeast side, and S. Main Street on the southeast side. Neighboring areas include the Historic Core, Downtown, Central Alameda, Florence-Graham, Vermont-Slauson, Vermont Square, and Exposition Park. South Park overlaps with some of the other neighborhoods such as the Financial District and the Jewelry District.
The area offers both brand new buildings and renovated historic buildings, just walking distance from L.A. Live, Staples Center, the L.A. Convention Center, and many specialty stores. There’s always something going on in this vibrant urban center! Other nearby attractions include the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Disney Concert Hall, the Central Library, art galleries, and a variety of live theater and performance venues. Recreation is available at South Park, a community park after which the area was named.
