Montecito Heights is a small neighborhood north-east of Los Angeles once known as East Los Angeles. Neighboring area include Monterey Hills on the northeast, El Sereno on the southeast, Lincoln Heights on the southwest, Mount Washington on the northwest, and Highland Park on the north. The north west boundary is defined by the Pasadena Freeway (SR-110). It sits atop the Monterey Hills that separate Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley farther to the east. Many of the streets have spectacular views of Los Angeles while offering trees and greenery, leading to the nick name used by residents of “Wilderness in the City”. Montecito Heights, along with Highland Park and Pasadena, is one of the historic centers of the arts and crafts movement which took place in the early 1900’s. Many of the homes feature traditional craftsmanship the using simple forms often found in medieval, romantic, or folk styles of architecture. Neighborhood landmarks include the Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, Heritage Square Museum, and the Audubon Center. There are many beautiful homes in the rugged hills of Montecito Heights that offer a peaceful and private lifestyle while still being close to the many services and attractions of Los Angeles.
