Jefferson Park (also known just as Jefferson) is a neighborhood just west of downtown Los Angeles that features variety of architectural styles including everything from opulent historic homes to Art Deco modern mansions, as well as Edwardian and Craftsman style houses. Developed in the early 1900’s, Jefferson Park began as one of the wealthiest areas in the City of Los Angeles with many spectacular homes throughout. Still to this day, the area may be referred to as “Sugar Hill” by long time African American residents. The smaller neighborhood of West Adams Terrace is contained within Jefferson Park, and adjacent areas include Mid City / Arlington Heights to the north, Crenshaw / West Adams to the west, Vermont Harbor / Leimert Park to the south, and University Park / Adams-Normandie to the east. Part of Jefferson Blvd. is sometimes referred to as “Little New Orleans” due to the presence of Creole influenced businesses and restaurants. There are 9 public and private schools serving the area, and 2 small recreation parks.
