Crenshaw, or “Crenshaw District”, is an area in the southwest part of the city of Los Angeles.  It encompasses the smaller neighborhoods of Baldwin Village, Baldwin Hills, and Baldwin Vista as well as The Village Green and The Dons, depending on whom you ask.  Crenshaw is roughly defined by Stocker Street  and Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area on the south and south-east sides, Crenshaw Blvd. on the east, Jefferson Blvd. on the north and La Cienega Blvd. on the west.  Surrounding neighborhoods include West Adams, Jefferson Park, Leimert Park, View Park-Windsor Hills, Hyde Park, Ladera Heights, and Culver City.  Crenshaw is about 5 miles from downtown L.A., and about the same distance to the beaches of Venice and Santa Monica.  Recreation is available at Kenneth Hahn State Regional Park along the west border of Baldwin Hills, the Norman O Houston Park, the Jim Gilliam Recreation Center, and the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook which features a visitor cp-ad-best-homes-top-buys-socal-jcenter, amphitheater, picnic tables, walking paths, and the historic Culver City Stairs.  The Crenshaw business corridor along Crenshaw Boulevard has had many different cultural influences over the years and offers diverse ethnic stores and businesses.  The area is served by Crenshaw High School and several charter and private schools.  Crenshaw has significant affluent middle class areas, and has improved economically after redevelopment and investment in the mid-2000’s, including the development of a light rail line connected to the L.A. County Metro Rail System (still under construction).

Notable places in Crenshaw District include the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza shopping mall, Marlton Square (home of a future medical center), Crenshaw Square, and the Holiday Bowl retail center featuring shopping, restaurants, and cafes.  Two major special events take place annually- the Kingdom Day Parade (in honor of M.L.K Jr.), and the Taste of Soul Festival every October.  Residents of the area include many famous musicians, professional athletes, and politicians.  This prime neighborhood offers many well-maintained homes and tree lined streets in a central location with easy access to the rest of Los Angeles.
