Baldwin Hills is a neighborhood located in the city of Los Angeles, within the larger district of Crenshaw; it is the southern most part of Crenshaw. It is defined by S. La Brea Avenue on the west side, Stocker Street on the south-east side, and Don Felipe Drive on the north. Surrounding communities include Baldwin Village, Baldwin Vista, The Village Green, Windsor Hills, and Leimert Park. Different maps may however have slightly different boundaries encompassing Baldwin Village and areas up to Rodeo Road. Historical anecdotes claim that the area was named after Elias J. “Lucky” Baldwin, a land developer and horse race enthusiast. Baldwin Hills is almost entirely residential depending how one maps out the area, but Crenshaw Blvd. just to the east has commercial and retail zones with shopping, restaurants, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, and Marton Square. Recreation is available at Kenneth Hahn State Regional Park along the west border of Baldwin Hills, the Norman O Houston Park, the Jim Gilliam Recreation Center, and the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook which features a visitor center, amphitheater, picnic tables, walking paths, and the historic Culver City Stairs. Located about 5 miles from downtown L.A. and 4 miles from the beach, this affluent neighborhood is a prime location offering beautiful homes and easy access to many nearby attractions and businesses.
